The blog post where I geek out about Jordan Peele...
Peele is someone who knows his horror, he understands the ins and outs of the genre. So he understands the competition of the genre he is dealing with. That is what makes the social issues in Get Out so unique to the genre. Yes, its horror but also a reflection of the world, of race, of real issues. And this is what makes Jordan Peele an auteur.
I am very interested to see him step into the stop-motion world with Wendell & Wild. I do hope Netflix promotes this movie more but for now, I will keep it here in my blog.
In closing, I want to thank Jordan Peele for opening my eyes to the world of horror and scares. I was never a fan of the horror genre before Peele. I found the idea of getting scared with no purpose behind it very useless. But knowing that Peele is using his platform to bring diversity to Hollywood, how can you not support that! The way he incorporates societal issues into a Mastercraft of the film will always blow my mind. To this day I don't really watch horror, but whenever Peele has a new film coming out, you know I'll be there to watch!
Jordan Peele's style is very unique. I would not consider his movies scary in the traditional way, however, his incorporation of real injustices in today's world as the true horror in his films.
ReplyDeleteGood points, Ola. I imagine that many of the injustices Peele highlights are experienced as horror for those who suffer in the sunken place(s) where they so frequently occur.
DeleteI'm glad you saw this subtext for its value in showing the cultural relevance of the film. Thanks Ola!
