Welcome ~
I'm Addison

I am a senior at North Central College. My major is in Chinese language and culture, and my minor is in International Business. I chose my major so that I could finally learn Chinese and speak to my grandparents in their native tongue. It isn't going too well, as I really don't know how to learn languages. I am enrolled in FILM 100 because I've always had an interest in film, and always wanted to take a film class, and now I have the opportunity to do so.

My love for film and media definitely started in middle school. I really enjoy watching animated series and learning about voice acting. From there I delved into the world of voice acting in tv shows, movies, and video games. I loved seeing how they were different from on-screen actors.
My high school dream was definitely to become a voice actress but I realized I don't quite have the acting talent for it. But I would love to be somehow involved in the industry someday.

My love of film definitely grew from my interest in voice acting, learning about how camera lenses can shape a scene, or editing and cutting can relate to a movie's pace in an animated movie just the same as a live-action movie. I think a big credit to a huge movie interest is Guillermo Del Toro who is my biggest movie inspiration. I love how he has child-like magic and horror in his films, creating whimsical masterpieces.

Overall, I'm really excited about this class. I feel like Abed from Community if anyone knows who that character is. As sentimental as it sounds, it feels nice to take a class for fun. I don't think I've been able to take any classes for personal enjoyment since I started my college journey. It gives me a very large sense of relief to just be able to talk about movies, animated or otherwise.

  1. First of all, I love snoopy and I wish I had a picture like that! It is so cute! I loved how you talked about your interest in voice acting and just film in general. I could tell that you truly have an interest in it as well as a passion. I personally love the art in animated films. Art is one of my biggest hobbies and has been since I was three. I believe this has led me to admiring animation. The creativity behind each character, object, and scene is intriguing. I never thought about the voice acting, but that definitely brings the animation to life!

  2. Nice to meet you! I'm also a senior taking this film class just because I also wanted to try one! I think it is cool that your desire to voice act has led you to this class in particular, I also thought about wanting to voice act for a while but I never actually tried to put any effort into it. I tried to learn Korean for a while but I also don't really know the best way to learn a new language, I tried multiple apps but I could never make myself be consistent with them. I hope you find this class interesting too!

  3. It's nice to meet to another Community fan! Someone like Abed would totally enjoy this class, so I feel like you will too! I'm taking this class for fun too. I've definitely always been interested in any sort of movies or TV, so this class seems like a great fit to me too. Also I've always been interested in language learning, so I wish you luck with that too!

  4. I think it is so cool that you are majoring in Chinese language! Props to you for that because I don't remember much from my 4 years of Spanish in high school. I also am very impressed by your interest in voice acting. I think many people skip over that role in movies. I also think this is going to be a fun class talking about films and how they are created and the depth behind them as well.

  5. I think that it's great you decided to major in Chinese language and culture to be able to communicate more with your family. I also love that you mentioned community, as it is definitely one of my favorite shows. I'm glad that you're able to embraced your inner Abed in a way by being able to finally take a film class!
